For those unfamiliar with the east coast, Cape Cod is the hook-shaped peninsula off the end of Massachusetts. It’s home to quaint villages, fresh seafood, ocean beaches, and the best sunsets. Although only an hour and a half drive from Boston, it feels like another world – the perfect beach destination during the hot summer months and a relaxing getaway during the less crowded off-season. I am lucky to have spent a lot of time on the Cape ever since I was born, so here are some of my favorite spots to eat in both Falmouth and Woods Hole.
breakfast + lunch
Pie in the Sky (Woods Hole)
Located in the historic village of Woods Hole and just off the Shining Sea Bikeway, Pie in the Sky is known for their popovers, handmade pies, baked goods, and coffees. They also offer made to order sandwiches, homemade soups, quiches, and salads. I almost always order an egg and cheese sandwich on a popover with guac and lately have been into their iced chai. (If you’ve never had a sandwich on a popover before you’re missing out, just saying). I also love taking a bite of their bread pudding when my brother orders it :) They have some outdoor seating, but I often get my food to-go and bring it to the beach. On weekends during the peak summer months, Pie is very busy (rightfully so) so there may be a wait for your food but it’s always worth it.

Village Cafe (West Falmouth)
Also accessible from the bikeway, Village Cafe is a hidden gem and the perfect spot to refuel before, during, or after a bike ride. For breakfast, be sure to try the Guacamole Riser sandwich (over hard egg, cheese, guacamole & black beans), the banana pancakes, or the sweet potato hash (roasted sweet potatoes topped with arugula and two eggs cooked to your liking). And for lunch I love getting the Caesar wrap to-go to bring to the beach, but their grilled cheeses and tacos are also good. Daily specials are available too!
Martha’s (Falmouth)
One of the best healthy-eats spots in the area, Martha’s is right on Main Street in Falmouth so it’s the perfect stop during a day of shopping or before a trip to the beach. Their acai bowl is my favorite, but I also love their grain bowls and caprese sandwich.

Moonakis Cafe (East Falmouth)
If you’re looking for a classic breakfast place, Moonakis is the place to go. Think eggs, bagels, French toast, pancakes, waffles…but this is not just your average diner-style fare. I love the mozzarella, tomato, and pesto omellette and definitely want to try their lemon poppyseed pancakes and cinnamon roll French toast.

dinner
Quicks Hole Taqueria (Woods Hole)
The sister restaurant to the more upscale Quicks Hole Tavern upstairs, this fresh, California-style Mexican spot is good vibes all around. Eat your food outside on the patio with a glass of sangria and listen to the live music, or get it to-go for a sunset beach picnic. My favorite is the grilled cod burrito, but you simply can’t go wrong with their wide selection of tacos, burritos, burrito bowls, soups (I love the watermelon gazpacho), and salads. I could eat here every night.

Chart Room (Cataumet)
A bit north of the main part of Falmouth, the Chart Room is a Cape Cod classic and surely worth the trek. The Chart Room has been in business for over fifty years and is a favorite among locals. Situated on the waterfront of the Cataumet Marina, the atmosphere is fun and lively and offers breathtaking views as the sun goes down. They are known for their mudslides (Baileys Irish Cream, Kahlua, and vodka), but with great food and drink comes great crowds so take your mudslide to the shells (the patio) and enjoy the views while you wait for your table. For dinner, I usually go with the Caesar salad topped with grilled salmon, but be sure to check out all of their fresh seafood, meat, and sandwich options.

Estia (Falmouth)
Fairly new to Falmouth, Estia features classic Greek cuisine with a modern twist. They offer outdoor tables on their patio over looking Main Street as well as some live music. It’s hard to choose what to get here since I usually want it all, but some favorites include the trio of dips (hummus, tzatziki, and tyrokafteri), the Aegean salad (warm chickpeas, farro, tomatoes, corn, arugula, goat cheese, and lemon basil vinaigrette), and the swordfish veggie kebabs. I also love their coal-fired pizzas, especially the mozzarella, fig, and goat cheese one, and of course the baklava for dessert.

Anejo (Falmouth)
Located on Main Street, Anejo offers authentic Mexican food with a Cape Cod twist – fresh seafood and local produce. Choose to sit outside on their sidewalk patio to enjoy the fresh air and people-watch while you sip a margarita and enjoy some chips and guac, fish tacos, ~ensaladas~, and more.

Captain Kidd (Woods Hole)
Celebrating its 50th anniversary this year, the Captain Kidd is a Woods Hole landmark situated on Eel Pond Harbor. With a waterfront dining room and outdoor pier over the water, the Kidd offers the full Cape Cod dining experience. As you may guess, their menu features lots of fresh seafood such as fish n’ chips, tuna poke tacos, and pan seared halibut, but there are options for non-seafood lovers too. Be sure to try an order of onion rings for the table.

other spots I love
Somerset Creamery (Cataumet) my favorite ice cream on the Cape (love the Oreo and Blueberry Pie flavors)
Maison Villatte Patisserie (Falmouth) fresh breads, croissants, and pastries; a must try even if it’s just for the mouth-watering smell inside this authentic French bakery
Ben & Bill’s Chocolate Emporium (Falmouth), Ghelfi’s Candy (Falmouth), Candy Go Nuts (Woods Hole), Smitty's Ice Cream (East Falmouth) four of the best ice cream/candy shops
Flying Bridge (Falmouth) another Cape Cod classic waterfront restaurant on Falmouth Harbor where you can watch the boats go by and walk along the boardwalk
